An innovative new Internet system could herald the interactive future of the global tourism industry, according to reports.

Hospitality.net writes that Icon, the Swiss based tourism and hospitality specialist, has developed a unique tool to supply fully interactive tourism products and reservation services.

And as an ever growing number of people take to the Internet for precisely this reason, analysts are predicting the system, operated by Ixeo, a fully owned Icon subsidiary, could trigger an influx of similar tools leading to something of a revolution within the tourism and travelling industry.

Pegasus Solutions, a leader in providing services to hotels and travel distributors, is working with the new system, with vice president Peter Fitzgerald describing the Internet system as "a truly dynamic tourism network providing enhanced accessibility for travel agents worldwide".

Graham Leslie, the founder and president of Ixeo, added: "Ixeo really provides open gateway access to buyers and suppliers in a way previously not possible. This can only be good for travel agents, consumers and hoteliers."

The network promises to be the world's largest on-line interactive tourism database with instant access to over 85,000 hotels and resorts around the world as well as over 460 international scheduled airlines.

The Internet system is scheduled to go live from July 1st.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
