The importance of improved accessibility features in web design for individuals with disabilities and for businesses is to be reiterated at the high profile BSI awards and conference event due to be staged in London on July 7th.

The event will see more than 20 industry experts speaking, including members from the Disability Rights Commission, about how accessibility is and should continue to lead to improved usability across the UK.

Julie Howell, the digital policy development manager at RNIB, is one such figure attending the event after receiving a New Media Age effectiveness award nomination for her role in raising awareness of the importance of accessibility.

"I am thrilled to be participating in this conference," said Ms Howell. "This BSI event and RNIB's NMA nomination show that the efforts to improve accessibility are paying off - not just for the disabled but for businesses too.

"The event is an excellent chance for those that are newly aware of the opportunities to come and learn strategies that will help them to succeed," she added.

The BSI event will be followed by a half day workshop on July 8th designed to offer non-technical managers with a practical guide to accessible web design.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
