Becta (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) has announced an online tool to support the recruitment, retention and training of ICT technicians.
Becta is the government's key partner in the strategic development and delivery of its information and communications technology (ICT) and e-learning strategy for the schools and the learning and skills sectors.
The new Internet tool aims to support the recruitment, retention and training of ICT technicians who work in schools, and provide tools, advice and guidance for school leaders and technicians.
The system uses the usability and accessibility of the Internet to allow school leaders to access advice on the recruitment of technicians and analyse the technical support already received.
Technicians themselves can access a self-assessment tool, which enables them to analyse current skills and identify training requirements.
John Taylor, project manager of institutional development at Becta said: "The demand for high quality technical support in schools is reflected in the significance of ICT to support the government's agenda for workforce reform in schools. This demonstrates the importance of a reliable and robust technical support system in schools."
