The Welsh Assembly government has announced plans to further the region's e-government strategies during the next five years.

According to eGov Monitor, the new reform and citizen-centric strategy in Wales will also see around £600 million of efficiency savings generated by 2010.

Developments will include renewed emphasis on common IT infrastructure, shared corporate services and an increasing use of e-procurement tools.

Wales' finance minister Sue Essex said that the drive will require "sustained commitment from all those involved."

"This is a unique opportunity to develop a distinctive public services agenda for Wales", she added.

"As well as meeting our needs and circumstances this agenda for change will make the most of the wealth of talent we have working in our public sector."

The "Delivering the Connections" action plan will be supported in 2008 by the introduction of another programme called "Communities@One".© DeHavilland Information Services plc
