Internet provisions expressly for and about regional children's services are becoming ever more central within websites' agendas, a new trend suggests.

The development comes on a day when both Southampton city council and the government-designed Improvement Network website launched online databases detailing local public services for children.

Southampton council's new children's service directory has been launched on its 'City Web' page and aims to help parents and providers working with young people to access advice and support from the most appropriate source.

Ian Sandbrook, director of education at Southampton city council said: "This is a very important development - all too often we miss opportunities because we don't know about them.

"This directory will help children, young people and their parents to know what is on offer and where to find it."

Much the same can be said of the latest addition to the Improvement Network website. Developed in partnership by four local government organisations, the website also encourages self-improvement in public services.

Steve Bundred, chief executive of the Audit Commission, one of the participating groups, said: "Ensuring that the young are healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve through learning, make a positive contribution to society and achieve economic well-being is the essence of the agenda."© DeHavilland Information Services plc
