Birmingham City Council has launched a radical new programme to ensure all of its employees will have computer access.
Employees will be able to apply to gain a new home computer, for their own use.
The council feel that such an initiative will boost the level of IT literacy amongst its employees, which will have the natural knock-on effect of improving the council's use of computer and Internet technology, and therefore improve accessibility.
Councillor Rudge commented: "We are committed to improving the efficiency and the effectiveness of the way the City Council delivers services to the people of Birmingham.
"One of the advantages of an initiative like this is that council employees are able to learn new skills and improve their IT literacy. I welcome the scheme and hope that employees will take advantage."
Employees will be able to choose from a number of easy to understand computer packages tailored to different budgets and varying levels of computer experience.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
