Broadband provision continues to grow throughout the UK as more homes and businesses adopt the technology.
BT reports that there are now more than 250,000 customers using broadband services in Wales - a increase of about 85,000 over the past 12 months.
It is estimated that around 18 per cent of the country's households and companies are now making use of broadband technology, reports the Western Mail.
In addition, BT is continuing its commitment to encourage investment in broadband through the launch of its 21 CN in the South Wales area.
"This milestone shows that the uptake of broadband in Wales is moving incredibly fast, and, together with the recent 21 CN announcement, demonstrates the substantial progress we are making in becoming a broadband nation," said Andrew Davies, minister for economic development and transport and the government's E-minister.
It is expected that BT's current £1.5 billion UK investment programme will mean that Wales has a 99.5 per cent broadband coverage rate.
Ann Beynon, BT's director Wales said: "People are transforming the way they work, play and learn with the help of this technology. Rural businesses are able to compete on a world stage and remote learning is possible."
