HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has appointed a trouble-shooter to help them boost public usage of its online services, according to eGov Monitor.

HMRC's website has already seen a massive increase in the number of users in recent times. However, HMRC is not content to stand still and has appointed Lord Carter of Coles to help them further boost the use of key online services, including self assessment, VAT and corporation tax.

Lord Carter said in a statement: "I am very pleased to undertake this task, and encouraged by the rapid adoption of HMRC's online service by employers, with over 60 per cent filing online this year.

"Appropriate use of technology offers the opportunity for modern government services that benefits taxpayers and businesses."

Lord Carter is currently the chair of Sport England and a member of the government's Public Services Productivity Panel.
