Internet accessibility helped to make this weekend's Live 8 concert a success.

The historic event designed to promote the Make Poverty History campaign saw acts from past and present come together to entertain the crowd.

The web played a massive role both by helping people contribute ahead of the concert to downloading music as the bands played.

Organisers said the rendition of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by Sir Paul McCartney and U2's Bono was available for download just minutes after it was performed.

Fans unable to attend or watch the show on television could also use the internet to watch the action unfold.

Acts including Madonna, Coldplay, Snoop Dogg and Robbie Williams entertained the crowd in Hyde Park.

The highlights for the older generation of music fans would have been the performances by the surviving members of The Who and Pink Floyd, who played together for the first time in almost three decades.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
