A special online training service to help tackle drug and alcohol abuse has proved successful.

It is estimated that over 200 people have taken advantage of the West Sussex Drug and Alcohol Action Team's (DAAT)'s online training package which aims to support local businesses in reducing drug and alcohol abuse in the workplace.

The free training scheme consists of five separate sections and takes around two-and-a-half hours to complete. The initiative was launched following research that showed many drug and alcohol abusers in the region manage to gain employment.

Human resource project manager for the DAAT, Elizabeth Flegg, said: "These figures are not unexpected, but there may be many more hidden drug and alcohol problems within the workplace and it is a concern that organisations are not ready to deal with them.

"The online training course is there to raise awareness of the problems and help businesses work out how best to deal with it."
