JANET, the network dedicated to the needs of education and research in the UK, is proving vital to students' use of the Internet to learn.
A recent survey found that the reliability of a JANET connection reduces anxiety in students with challenging behaviour and therefore helps them to learn. JANET is funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
So effective has JANET been that all survey respondents commented that they would recommend it to a similar specialist college.
Tony Burgess from the LSC said: "The LSC is delighted to have funded the connection of 45 specialist colleges in England.
"These specialist colleges provide a learning environment for severely disabled students, who are now benefiting from enhanced e-learning materials provided via JANET, the national education network."
The connection of the Hinwick College of Further Education this summer to JANET completes a three-year programme of connecting specialist colleges.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
