The minister for local eGovernment has insisted that it is vital local authorities continue to take an innovative approach to service delivery.

Jim Fitzpatrick told local authority IT and e-transformation managers it was important that they did not lose a sense of adventure and that they had to continue taking risks and being innovative if they were to successfully convince the public that local government was modernising.

Mr Fitzpatrick said: "Every new idea and every new technology should be firmly focussed on improving life for all people in any area."

Mr Fitzpatrick was speaking at a conference showcasing council projects funded by the e-Innovations programme.

He announced that, as part of the second round of this programme, £6 million of funding would be made available for several local authority projects.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
