A new online guide has been introduced providing Glasgow's disabled residents and visitors with accessibility information on facilities in the city centre.

It will also enable business and service providers to contact potential customers with accessibility concerns. The guide is the product of social enterprise DisabledGo and is funded by Glasgow City Council and Marks & Spencer.

The convener of Glasgow City Council's Equalities Sub Committee, councillor Irene Graham, told PublicTechnology.net that this online guide would "empower" Glasgow's disabled, and "help them get more enjoyment out of the city".

DisabledGo states on its website that it believes "society disables people by not making goods and services accessible to all" and that its purpose is to enable disabled people to judge for themselves before they go out which shops and services are accessible to them.

Over a quarter of Glasgow's population are disabled or suffer with a long-term illness. Glasgow is one of 35 local associations who work with DisabledGo as part of its national accessibility project.
