Worcester city council is set to launch a new online payments system.
Payments such as council tax, parking fines, non-domestic rates and benefit overpayments are already payable via telephone in Worcester.
The council is now providing an online payments system as it pushes for 100 per cent electronic government by the end of the year.
Head of IT, Andy Munro, said: "Aside from the speed, convenience and ease of paying by debit or credit card at any time of the day or night, customers also can be absolutely certain that the information they give us is 100 per cent safe."
This follows the triumph of Worcester's automated telephony payment system, which has been on trial for the past year and has received over 7,000 calls and collected nearly £1 million in revenue, in spite of it not having been formally promoted.
Worcester city council will be hoping that the new online payments system is similarly successful.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
