The UK's first online fire and rescue service is being developed, in a move that is intended to improve safety and save lives.
The e-fire National Project's new portal will provide a wide range of Internet-based services for citizens and businesses.
Users will be able to assess fire risks, plan control measures, prepare escape plans, apply for petroleum licences and register explosives online. They will also be able to request services from their local fire and rescue service and receive domestic fire safety advice.
The Fire and Rescue Portal will provide a vital service to both communities and businesses with the overriding goal of saving lives," said Dave Lawrence, senior responsible owner for the project at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
"We have forged a partnership with the Chief Fire Officers Association and Local Government Association to assist fire authorities in realising the benefits of e-fire and attaining e-government targets."
The contract is funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister Fire and Rescue Service Directorate, and is led by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
