There has been an astonishing rise in the use of wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) across Europe.

In a report from consultancy BroadGroup, it has been announced that deployment of wireless hotspots in Europe has jumped by a remarkable 67 per cent over a six-month period to the end of May 2005.

Furthermore, it is the UK that has the largest proportion of hotspots located in Europe, with an impressive 34 per cent.

What may well contribute to Wi-Fi seeing an even greater rise in popularity is the decrease in average charge for weekly usage of public hotspots.

BroadGroup also predicts that the use of Wi-Fi on board trains is set to increase significantly over the next three years as well.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
