The whole of Wales could soon be connected to broadband, thanks to the groundbreaking work of Anglesey Connected.

Launched back in 2003 by Anglesey County Council, this revolutionary project, the first of its kind in the UK, strove to and succeeded in creating a solid broadband infrastructure for the island, meaning a high level of Internet access for schools, libraries, learning centres and public offices.

And its achievements now stand as a workable strategy for the whole of Wales to adhere to, as delegates met on the island to discuss and learn from its success.

Charles Bass, Wales Broad-band Stakeholders Group chairman, commented: "This project demonstrates how innovative thinking combined with the use of technology can contribute to improving the lives of citizens and businesses on Anglesey.

"It was important that the group met on the island to see how Anglesey has implemented this award winning project, learn from their experiences and take these back to the rest of Wales."

The network now also provides broadband services to Coleg Menai and other learning centres on the island.

Plans are also underway to carry out a working exhibition with local businesses, as well as to provide wireless hotspot access at libraries for laptop and mobile users.
