MerseyBroadband is granting £30,000 to a new project aiming to utilise the Internet in boosting education right across Merseyside.
The Ariel Trust's new scheme will provide laptops with wireless Internet access for those schools not yet connected to broadband, thus bringing this crucial technology to even the region's poorest communities.
The Ariel Trust is also constructing an online resource that will enable teachers to exchange information and swap ideas with each other.
Kevin Morley, North West Development Agency (NWDA) head of ICT policy, commented: "This project is an excellent example of how broadband can help to revolutionise teaching and learning activity.
"This project will provide the tools to create an innovative new resource for the teaching community, as well as provide young people in the area with new skills utilising broadband technology.
"The challenge is for this kind of resource to become mainstream in teaching practice, ensuring the optimum learning environment for the region's young people."
MerseyBroadband is an initiative funded by the NWDA to provide funding support for innovative broadband projects.
The NWDA will be expecting its latest investment to pay dividends across the Merseyside community.
