A new online database is being launched that will enable public sector organisations to cooperate far more effectively.

The Shared Services Toolkit will help guarantee the success of any future shared ventures, advising organisations on how best to plan and implement such joint operations, as well as providing experiences of proven good practice as guidelines.

Among the numerous documents it already offers are a set of considerations for developing a business case, a 'Readiness Assessment Tool', sample IT system requirements, a draft communications strategy, plus international case studies.

The Toolkit is also set to include a detailed model business case for shared services, an overview of offshore outsourcing and example implementation plans, covering all aspects of technology, people and processes.

It is available from the government CIO Council's website.© Adfero Ltd
