The Internet is being utilised in Dorset to make it far easier for parents to enrol their children in schools.
Dorset County Council is launching an online school applications service, which will make it far quicker and easier to apply than it traditionally took to make a paper application.
Completing an online application is infinitely more convenient than completing a paper one, as it allows parents to save an application and go back to it as many times as they need to before sending it off, rather than having to fill it out in one go.
Toni Coombs, Dorset County Council Cabinet member for children's services, explained: "Traditionally the school admission process has been a long one, and can be a tense time for families. This opportunity to apply online gives advantages to both parents and schools."
"For parents this new service means a quick and easy way to submit an application; they'll be able to research schools and apply for a place at www.dorsetforyou.com, making the process easier. For schools it means fewer pieces of paper to deal with and a more streamlined system."
And this development has been welcomed by schools across the county, who have been quick to highlight just how innovative and important this scheme is.
Andy Puttock, head teacher of Queen Elizabeth School in Wimborne, commented: "I believe this is a forward-thinking and visionary move by Dorset County Council's admissions team."
