Peterborough City Council is radically renovating its IT infrastructure in a move that will make its services infinitely more accessible to Internet users.
The council is planning to spend £3 million on improvements, which will also increase cost efficiency.
The move will undoubtedly give council officers, members and the public far greater access to information, and hopefully increase productivity as well.
The council’s director of strategic resources, Chris Savory, commented: "This ICT improvement programme is vital to ensure the success of the city council’s key corporate and community strategies.
"These improvements are strategically aligned with the council’s key objectives in relation to the Gershon efficiency agenda and the council’s aim to achieve an ‘excellent’ rating in its Comprehensive Performance Assessment by 2007.
"It is also fundamental to the delivery of a range of related projects, such as an improved financial reporting system and a new human resources and payroll software package."
The upgrade will support the council’s Oracle-based core operating systems in a number of project areas such as disaster recovery, customer service desk, intranet and telecoms.
The investment follows a review of the city council’s IT services and the publication of Sir Peter Gershon’s Spending Review.© Adfero Ltd
