Portsmouth City Council's e-payments system has proved immensely popular, displaying the huge importance it now possesses within the region.
Since being launched in December, over £1 million has been paid through this system, a remarkable figure for such a small space of time.
The value of the new system lies in the great versatility it offers residents of Portsmouth, who can now make a number of different types of payments exactly how and when they choose.
Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson, leader of the council, commented: "We are very pleased by the public?s response and will continue to use technology to improve our systems.
"We want to make our services accessible to people at the times most convenient to them."
This new system enables people to pay council tax, business rates, parking charge notices, housing rents, benefit overpayments and home contents insurance.
The council is vowing that it will be possible to make an even greater number of different payments online in the near future.
