The mobile company, 3, is launching a new phone package that will permit users to break away from the very select group of sites they were previously able to access.
However, they are not yet allowing completely unrestricted access to the web, only allowing access to sites "optimised for viewing on compatible video mobiles". Popular mainstream websites such as the BBC, Amazon and eBay will be accessible and users can download five meg every month.
"This means the customer can be sure that both front pages and sub-pages are viewable, that the speed of download is high and that all the site's key activities are available," it explained in a company statement.
But,3 have said they are looking to widen the range in the near future. The new mobile web package will be available from mid-September, accessible from 3G handsets for a monthly fee.
