Plans for a new office for disability issues have been unveiled by David Blunkett, the secretary for work and pensions.

He announced his plans during a speech in Canada. He outlined his ideas to put the decision making power over future policy and the finance into the hands of those with disabilities.

'Rather than people fitting into services - services need to fit to individuals. Every person with a disability should have the power to choose the support and services they need from a wide range of possibilities that exist within a given community," he said.

The new government unit will be working in collaboration with the Disability Rights Commission. It will aim to bring greater accessibility for all across businesses and public services.
