The latest figures on Internet connections show broadband is still on the rise.

The July update to the monthly survey of Internet Service Providers (ISP) shows that broadband connections form 53.9 per cent of all Internet connections.

The figures also show that in the last year there has been almost a five per cent increase in the total number of active subscriptions to the Internet.

Until April 2005, dial-up formed the majority of connections to the Internet, but it has been on the decline since peaking in February 2002.

Dial-up has decreased by almost 30 per cent in the last year.

The statistics have been compiled in accordance with the standards set by the Office of National Statistics.
