Residents in Derbyshire can now access property information online and submit planning permission applications.

Amber Valley Council has offered property information services via its "My Property" site for the last three years. It provides information on property issues such as refuse collection times, council tax bands and the names of local councillors. It is now expanding into planning procedures.

"The on-line application procedure is just the latest service that the Council's planning unit has introduced to make life easier for its customers," said councillor Stephen Hayes.

"My Property also allows householders to look at development proposals for their local area and find out if their homes are in a flood zone, a conservation area or the green belt," he added.

Amber Valley Council has been leading the way in the development of e-government and the improved accessibility of public information on the web.

In December 2003, it was one of just seven councils to be awarded for its development and improvement of services.

Almost a year ago, the council picked up another award from the East Midlands Branch of the Royal Town Planning Institute in praise of its work on the My Property web pages.

The council's efforts will play an important part in reaching targets set out by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to radically improve the delivery of services by local government by 2008.
