Progress is being made in getting people to apply for school places online, with a number of local education authorities (LEAs) hitting targets.

During the first year of online applications, the government is aiming to get five to ten per cent of school applications being completed online. This jumps to between ten and 20 per cent in the second year.

Recent results from the e-Admission National e-Government Project show many LEAs are on their way to meet these goals. Devon has managed to get five percent or 420 applications filled out online. Bristol has achieved 16 per cent with both secondary and primary online applications.

Hertfordshire LEA has had almost two thousand online secondary applications (12 per cent) and East Riding and North Somerset came in with around 20 per cent of applications completed online.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has stated that all LEAs must have some form of online admissions process by September 2006.
