Google has launched a website that allows users to search web journals or blogs.
The search site has a database that indexes all weblogs, not just the ones published on the Google-owned blog writing site, Blogger. Currently, however, only blogs from June 2005 can be accessed, but plans to store older entries are underway.
However, Google is not the first blog search engine. Technorati and Memeorandum are just some of the available search engines. But, founder of Technorati, David Sifry, is glad Google has entered the blog market.
"I welcome the competition. We've got some tricks up our sleeves too - and there's no doubt that in the end, the competition will end up producing more innovation and better services for bloggers and readers. Welcome to the party, Google," he said on his personal blog page.
According to Technorati, there are currently 17 million web-logs or journals online.
