Information on a wide range of clinical trials is now available through a global industry organised web portal.
It is the first Internet search engine of its kind and has been established by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA).
The development is said to mark a commitment by the pharmaceutical industry to make information more accessible to the public.
"It was a significant step forward to agree that international trials should be publicly available, and it is a further sign of our commitment to greater transparency to establish a portal that enables doctors, patients and others with interests in new medicines to carry out searches in particular areas quickly and easily," said Dr Richard Barker, director general of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI).
The IFPMA is promoting the site by saying the results of trials can help doctors and their patients decide on the best course of treatment, having been informed of the latest information on recent biomedical research.
Although ABPI and other major UK companies have previously published clinical trial results on their websites, the IFPMA portal will now allow direct easy access to all results.
