A new community website has been launched to help unsigned artists showcase their work.
The "RealCommunity" portal lets bands and individuals upload their own music and information and even sell their music online.
For budding musicians it could spell an end to the endless years spent doing the pub circuit in the hope of being spotted and making it big.
Instead, artists can gain immediate access to a much wider audience via this new website.
"Joining the RealCommunity will give artists instant exposure and access to an entertainment-centric audience," explained Piers Heaton-Armstrong, marketing director at RealNetworks.
He added that music lovers will also benefit from the site, being able to enjoy free music downloads as well having a say over which band should be promoted.
The Internet is fast becoming the preferred medium for singers and musicians to use in their quest to break into the music industry.
The Sheffield rock band, the Arctic Monkeys rocketed to fame when their debut single hit the number one spot last October after building their fan base purely through the Internet.
