The results of an e-consultancy report on online charity benchmarks has confirmed the importance of accessibility.
Although the report was not written specifically with accessibility in mind, its examination of the charitable sector has concluded that despite the need for charities to fully engage with their audience online, levels of provision varied considerably.
According to the results of the study, larger organisations tended to interact better with their target audience, understanding the need to engage with the user and present themselves in a clear accessible manner.
Although there were exceptions, the sites of smaller charities appeared to lack focus, existing "only because the charity felt they needed to put something online".
"Charities should lead the way in pushing for a more open and accessible online environment, even if it's only by ensuring their own website can be viewed by all," said Dean Russell from iConcertina.
E-consultancy specialises in assisting firms with the development of coherent and accessible internet marketing strategies.
