The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has launched a new website has launched a new website for farmers dealing with waste management.

Specifically, the site deals with the management of plastic agricultural waste and will contain information sourced from the Agricultural Waste Plastics Collection and Recovery Programme (AWPCRP), reports European Plastics News.

"This programme of work will feed into the development of a producer responsibility scheme for the collection and recovery of non-packaging farm plastics," said AWPCRP.

The site enables employees within the agricultural sector to locate collectors and processors of agricultural plastics within their area.

Defra's new website has been developed following the introduction in May of new legislation to prohibit the non-standard disposal, through burning or burial, of agricultural waste products.

Funding for the programme was obtained through a £1 million award to the Agricultural Waste Stakeholders Forum, from the secretary of state for the environment.
