A new website could ensure that people can get the help they need in an emergency more quickly.

Touted as a one-stop-shop for the emergency service, the online portal will provide a wealth of information on issues ranging from flooding to terrorism, the Scotsman reports.

The website will offer advice to residents in Lothian and Borders, which holds many rural areas.

Ian Hogarth, emergency planning manager for Scottish Borders Council, explains: "It's really a chance for all of the emergency services and local authorities to work together and provide the public with all the information they will need.

"It's going to allow people to have easy access to everything they need to know without them having to make dozens of phone calls or visit lots of other websites as they try to piece together what is happening."

The website also contains advice such as what to keep in an emergency toolkit, should a disaster occur.
