A UK website which aims to provide round-the-clock advice and news on museums, galleries and heritage has scooped a top award.
The online portal, named The 24 Hour Museum, won Highly Commended status at the Tourism ExSEllence Awards 2006, for its innovation and high quality of service.
Judges evaluated several areas of the website, including the accessibility, usability and quality of design.
The website also needed to have a proven record of success in generating e-commerce to be recognised by the awarding body, Tourism South East.
Bob Collier, managing director of Tourism South East, stated that the website was "highly impressive in scope, content and design", making it ideal for its target audience.
"It has enjoyed tremendous feedback from users and from the sector and is therefore highly deserving of its Highly Commended award," he added.
The 24 Hour Museum received 3.3 million unique visitors in 2006 and features a live database of more than 3,800 museums, galleries and heritage sites.
