A new e-learning resource has been launched, which aims to provide a wealth of information on the history of evolution.
Named Darwin Online, the website features more than 50,000 text pages and 40,000 images relating to the topic, all of which are searchable by the user.
The site's creators also claim that it features the most extensive Darwin bibliography ever to be published, along with the largest catalogue of manuscripts collated.
Furthermore, the site contains more than 150 ancillary texts, which range from contemporary reviews to obituaries and secondary reference materials.
Provided by a number of organisations, including the University of Cambridge and the Arts and Humanities Research Council, plans are also in the pipeline to add more material to the site.
"The site currently contains about 50 per cent of the materials that will be provided by 2009," its creators note.
"New material is added almost daily. Forthcoming materials include more editions and translations, images of the majority of the Darwin Archive at Cambridge University Library … and technical facilities for printing and larger images."
