The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has created a new online service, aiming to help authorities to implement parenting strategies.

Government officials at Every Child Matters believe that the new online guide will enable local authorities to make better decisions in their communities, helping to get vital support to children and families.

Created by the DfES in coordination with Parenting UK, the new guide allows commissioners to search through an up-to-date database of effective parenting programmes across the country, which they can then use in their authority.

Parenting programmes are defined as the use of formal methods to support the parent-child relationship.

Additionally, the DfES is launching a new guide for local authorities, which is available online, outlining the need for strategic approaches to the delivery of parent support services.

Every Child Matters aims to implement the key strategies of the Children Act 2004, which states that all youngsters have the right to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being.
