Council officials in Somerset are hoping that a new website will allow residents to obtain the right information about homecare.

Developed in partnership with the Somerset Residential Care Providers Association, Somerset County Council's new online portal offers a range of advice to users.

Homecare is designed to help individuals with long-term care needs to obtain a high level of day-to-day support, allowing them as much independence as possible.

Councillor Justin Robinson, Somerset County Council's portfolio holder for adult and community services, said that the website is an example of the council's commitment to using new technology to help local residents.

Strategic commissioning manager Betty Chandler added: "The website will help people and their carers find out about the care and support available to them at the click of a button."

The European Union recently announced a £2 million project to create assistive technology, aiming to help elderly users access vital services.
