A new website has been launched which has been designed specifically for children with learning difficulties.

Created by The Children's Society, the portal has been designed with unique usability and accessibility features - as it uses a language made of pictures, not words.

Youngsters accessing the site will find news, jokes, stories and information, all of which are presented in the specialised style.

The Askability website is also fully compliant with AAA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, allows tab indexing and offers the ability to turn off flash.

Maureen Murray, programme manager at The Children's Society, said: "Askability offers disabled children the chance to enjoy their own website.

"I'm glad it's finally a reality and hopefully lots of disabled children will now be able to get involved."

The Children's Society, which is a charitable company, claims that Askability is the world's first image-led website designed specifically for disabled children and youngsters.
