24 November 2006
Government officials have announced details of the phased introduction of its electronic National Standard Planning Application Form (1APP).
Gradually introduced between February 2007 and September 2007, the phased introduction of 1APP will allow the new application to be successfully trialled, in addition to enabling the identification of any problems and discrepancies between any existing processes.
The new electronic planning application form will become compulsory in October 2007 and will replace the individual application processes approved by each of the Local Planning Authorities (LPA) across England.
In order to assist with the phasing in of the new system, LPAs across the country will be holding a number of regional workshops.
The new scheme is being implemented by the Department for Communities and Local Government, established in May 2006 to develop "economic inclusion" and foster "social mobility".
