The British Computer Society (BCS) has been praised for its efforts in making online exams more accessible.

At the 2006 European Computer Driving Licence Foundation Licensee Awards, the BCS was presented with the Operational Excellence - Accessible to All Award, Public Relations - Importance of Digital Literacy Award and the Best Practice in Product Marketing Award.

The prizes recognise steps taken by the body to cater for members of the public with disabilities, as it has worked with the Royal National College for the Blind to create Braille, large print, and audio versions of its online exams.

Additionally, by collaborating with the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties, the BCS claims that its manual tests should be usable for all.

"BCS is formulating strategies to ensure that new products are developed with inclusion and accessibility in mind and is in the process of making all existing and new products accessible to the widest possible audience," the body remarked.

Assistive technology such as screen readers are also provided to users, while the BCS is currently ranking all test centres and encouraging them to improve their accessibility equipment.
