The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is set to improve the accessibility of its website.
As part of its new Disability Equality Scheme, which promises to improve outcomes for disabled persons, the department has pledged to upgrade all of its internal and external communications.
In addition to upgrading the accessibility of the online portal and all web-based documents, the DCLG will offer alternative formats upon request to users and actively seek the views of disabled users for improvement.
Peter Housden, permanent secretary at the department, said: "In all our work we want to ensure we are taking and sponsoring practical action to break down the barriers that disabled people face in every community, workplace and in society as a whole, and to change the way people think about disability."
Currently, the website complies with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines AA standard wherever pages use HTML and is designed to be compatible with screen readers.
