Improvements in accessibility could mean that e-commerce opportunities become far greater in 2007, an expert has claimed.

Product management and e-commerce specialist Hybris stated that new technologies will allow greater accessibility and improved human-computer interaction.

2007 could become the "year of e-commerce", the company asserted, with more "socially sympathetic" websites also able to enhance user and community input.

Robert Garf, research director at AMR Research, commented: "In the late 1990s through mid-2002, retailers invested in first-generation e-commerce applications to meet growing consumer demand.

The expert added that these systems would not allow retailers to meet evolving consumer needs and expectations, with many organisations seeking to upgrade their current infrastructure to meet new targets.

Richard Waugh, a commercial litigation lawyer at Eversheds, recently warned UK retailers that they could miss out on valuable sales by failing to provide adequate levels of online accessibility, reported Retail Bulletin.
