The new Internet school admissions programme has been a resounding success in Dudley borough, according to the council.

Since the scheme's inception earlier this year, almost one-third of parents transferring their child to a secondary school have done so online, figures from Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council have revealed.

The new web-based system has made it simpler for parents to apply for their child, reports eGov monitor.

Liz Walker, cabinet member for children's services, commented: "Parents and carers across the borough have really taken to the idea of one click makes it quick," she remarked.

"Our e-admissions system is straightforward, safe and easy to use, and it's clear that people are seeing real benefits in applying for school places online."

She added that the response had been "fantastic" - given that the system had been available for a few months.

The e-admissions service was launched in all 150 education authorities earlier this year, with take-up led by Hertfordshire, where 58 per cent of parents opted for the service.
