The Internet can be a major boost for NHS patients, an expert at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) has claimed.

Dr Gillian Leng, implementation systems director at the body, commented on a conference in how to "make clinical excellence a reality for all patients".

Nice has recently launched a second online database, aiming to provide NHS bodies with additional information on the implementation of its guidelines.

Following the recently-created information sharing web resource, the organisation has rolled out Evaluation and Review of Nice Implementation Evidence, an online information resource.

Dr Leng commented: "By creating these two central repositories of information we can reduce duplication in workload and make the wealth of resource out there easily available to those tasked with the important job of putting Nice guidance into practice."

Nice recently called upon NHS bodies to make contributions to its online databases in a bid to encourage information sharing among bodies.
