Peterborough City Council has introduced a new online method of booking theatre tickets and sporting facilities.

Web users can now select particular theatre seats or reserve sporting facilities via the council's website and then safely pay for the bookings on their credit or debit card.

"The introduction of these online booking options is a significant development in our service to customers. It will allow customers to see at a glance what facilities are available at what times at council operated leisure and recreation facilities," explained councillor Matthew Lee.

This latest addition to the site marks the council's continued effort to meet government targets aimed at increasing the number of local services available to the public via the Internet.

The booking facility has been made possible by advanced software known as LeisureFlex modular software packages, which is already in operation in over 500 leisure centres in the country.

Peterborough council is also hoping to implement a similar online facility within the environmental services department, enabling local people to submit requests on issues such as rubbish collections or report illegal activities such as fly-tipping.
