A campaign to highlight the many different government services and sources of information available online has been launched today.
Information from finding a childminder to buying a house or applying for car tax can currently all be accessed at the online government portal known as Directgov.
This online facility brings all public services together via one website and was initially launched in 2004, but it now aims to attract even more users with a new marketing campaign.
The campaign follows research commissioned by Directgov that shows the majority of people prefer to use trusted websites known as 'supersites' rather than trawling through the Internet for information.
Jim Murphy, cabinet office minister responsible for Directgov, believes the government needs to provide online services that are just as efficient and consumer-friendly as services in the commercial sector.
"If you can order your shopping, manage your bank accounts and book cinema tickets online - why shouldn't you expect the same convenience online from government?
"A few clicks and you're there - that's what people expect and demand from their services today and government is no exception," he said.
