The C2k scheme introduced in Northern Ireland to enhance the learning experience at post-primary schools through ICT has proved a roaring success, a survey has shown.

A survey of teachers at Northern Ireland's 221 post-primary schools showed that 89 per cent were satisfied with the reliability of the PCs that they were provided with, while contentment with network security standards was a similarly impressive 87 per cent.

The network's antivirus protection also proved popular, with 98 per cent expressing their satisfaction with it, while the overall contentment with C2k's staff was an excellent 83 per cent.

Jimmy Stewart of C2k commented: "We're delighted with the survey's findings as it confirms the groundbreaking success and educational benefits C2k has delivered in the post-primary sector.

"Teachers, for the first time, have shared their appreciation and enthusiasm for what C2k is delivering to the classroom and how it is significantly enhancing their learning and teaching environment in a safer and more accessible way."

When asked about the main benefits that they had derived from the C2k scheme, a large proportion of the respondent school teachers cited the good quality software packages that it offered.

Other benefits named included the increase in the availability of high quality hardware and the access for all staff and pupils through networked systems, as well as the efficiency of management and administration.
