The TUC (Trades Union Congress) has created an online tool that lets employees take a look at their company's top directors salaries.

The site is called Worksmart and contains details on around 1,500 of the top companies in the UK.

It allows visitors to look up free of charge the profits of certain companies and the salary of the highest paid director.

Employees can also work out how much they would be earning if their salary had increased at the same rate as their company's top director over the last five years.

Brendan Barber, the TUC's general secretary says the site can help job hunters research the company they may be considering working for.

"Worksmart aims to provide a wealth of corporate information no more than a mouse click away," she added.

Visitors to the site can also compare their salary to others in similar positions within different companies as well as read up on interview techniques and CV writing skills.
