Regional development agency One NorthEast has received a £1 million European grant to take charge of the R4eGov project within the region over the next three years.
The new project aims to speed up the delivery of administration within the public sector, calling upon frontline adaptive technology to increase the usability of the services and make the process understandable to everyone, whatever their sector of work.
It will subject the current systems for storing information to the most exacting forms of accessibility testing, to see if improvements can be made.
The accolade follows the success of the agency's eJustice programme, which aimed to boost standards of legal procedure, by making administration quicker, less confusing and better equipped to deal with cross-border issues, such as European arrest warrants.
"The impact of the recent eJustice project was huge, and I am confident R4eGov can achieve the same levels of success," said Margaret Fay, chairman of One NorthEast.
"This type of initiative will help us substantially raise our profile, especially with senior members of staff at the European Commission supporting it," she added.
The new scheme will be launched at Matfen Hall in Northumberland on March 16th, with dozens of key delegates from around Europe expected to attend.
