A new online learning platform is being developed to help train school leaders across the UK.

It is being created to address issues such as policies on children's services and succession planning for teachers and leaders.

The National College for School Leadership (NCSL) is behind the new platform, which it hopes will allow it to provide high standard leadership programmes to school leaders.

BT has been contracted for seven years to ensure these targets are met, and will be required to supply a fully managed e-learning management environment along with systems integration of applications and services.

BT provided the previous NCSL e-learning platform, which had successfully reached a user base of 75,000, from a target audience of 250,000.

Mike Blackburn, sales director for BT's education and local government department, hopes this latest contract will maintain the NCSL as a pioneer in e-learning provisions.

"We really want to help NCSL maintain its leadership position by implementing new innovative flexible learning services and allow them to extend their presence into new areas, such as knowledge management and content commissioning," he said.
